In Klaipeda, Lithuania, we made a short stopover just before the marina was emptied for the Tall ships race arrival. On the way to Klaipeda we passed the Russian waters with some distance. Patrol ships were watching us all the time. Next time we will get a permission to go to Kaliningrad as well.
In Klaipeda we had an appointment with Kulturpolis, an organisation dealing with residency programs, exhibitions and international projects. Here we held a seminar with a few invited artists, of whom most were in fact designers. Also two curators/gallerists took part. We informed about the project, about possibilities to take part next summer and discussed in what way we could cooperate with Kulturpolis in the future, just as we did in Gdansk. It became clear to us that it is necessary to have more time to real exchange of ideas, than we had this time, to be able to build a good partnership. What we are able to do during a meeting like this is to exchange information about our organisations and some ideas of what we would like to do. Some of the artists/designers were really interested in taking part on the boat, but could hardly understand english. On a boat this might mean a communication problem.
We were starting to think about possibilities to come back to get more time for planning… too bad to have only two days in such an interesting place. One of the days were used by the crew for making a bicycle tour on the Coronian Spit, the long piece of land stretchning all the way from Kaliningrad to Klaipeda, almost 100 km long.
